Majahuitas: an eco-friendly resort

The Hotel

Majahuitas is an eco-friendly resort consisting of only eight little casitas, all built strategically around the cove to enjoy a beautiful ocean view. The resort is located on one of the most exclusive beaches in the Bay of Bandera’s and is only accessible by boat. Although not an island, you will get the feeling of being on your own private deserted getaway. All energy is solar powered so you will not find televisions or air-conditions, but trust us, you won’t need them.

The hotel is built on communal land belonging to the indigenous community of Chacala, which cannot be bought or sold under any circumstance. A group of investors wanted to share this beautiful corner of Mexico with the world and signed a twenty year lease on the property in 1996. Their dream was to create a place where people could come and get away from the worries of everyday life, a business that would place all its values on friendliness and service, while remaining environmentally sustainable. Thus began the experience that is Majahuitas Resort.

Please note:

At Majahuitas we take the term ecotourism seriously. In an effort to make our ecological footprint as unnoticeable as possible, we have taken upon the following practices:

* Alternative Energy: The main lobby and all eight rooms rely on solar energy for lighting. Cliff House also has a solar water heater.

* Composting: Biological decomposition of organic materials that enrich garden soils and decrease the need for additional watering.

* Towel Re-Use Program: Help reduce the water and energy consumption in washing towels daily.

* Water Conservation: Some casitas have low flow toilets, and the lobby has a waterless urinal.

* Xeric Gardens: The use of plants on the property that are native to the region and thus require the use of less water.

* Eco-friendly food: We do not buy farm raised seafood. All of our seafood is caught by local fishermen ensuring the freshness of our food and support for the local economy.

* Recycling Program: Recycling bins are located at the hotel lobby for every day plastic bottles, soda cans, etc.

Each individual casita has been built with privacy and comfort in mind, and decorated with charming local crafts. The construction is mostly open-air to take advantage of the gentle breeze, fabulous ocean views and sounds of the sea. The resort is solar powered, so you won't find televisions or telephones to break the spell of an "island adventure", but you will find solar lighting for night time reading.

There are only eight casitas and they vary in size and uniqueness to accommodate couples or families. At full capacity of 30 guests, you will never run into a crowd. The intimate setting will make you feel like you've found your very own private retreat from the world.
